End of the Line
On December 26, 2016

This poem was written a while ago, when I was not in a relationship and living on my own. At that time, although I had two very precious inherited daughters from my second marriage, I had no children of my own. These words reflect a rather bleak period in my life.

Welcome to the end of the pier
this is where the line ends and the fun begins
(Beyond that rail lies nothing to concern us)
Here is where the action is
All day, every day
spring, summer and autumn
(We close when winter comes)

Forget your worries and responsibilities
Here you have none
Enjoy the procession of lovely girls
the conquests
the failures
the brief encounters
the lasting lovers
Enjoy the freedom
money to spend
places to go
things to do
and only you to care for

What could be better than
all this peace and quiet,
all this space,
all this time?

(Of course there are no noisy children here, sir
This is the end of the pier, remember?
This is where the line ends)
